Ms. Pat Chin and VP Records Receive Prestigious Empire Award in Queens.

Though they pay close attention to the changing tides of Caribbean music and culture trends, VP Records’ passion for authentic dancehall and reggae has never waned, and it shows because they are now the world’s largest independent record label

A memorable moment in reggae history took place last Friday at the VP Records Retail Store in Jamaica, Queens, as Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin was honored with the 2026 New York State Senate Empire Award, presented by State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky of the 11th District.

The award recognizes VP Records’ longstanding contribution to music, culture, and the Caribbean community, as well as its enduring impact on New York State and beyond.

For decades, Miss Pat and the VP Records family have helped bring reggae and dancehall music from the sound systems of Kingston, Jamaica, to audiences around the world — preserving the spirit and legacy of Jamaican music through generations.

Surrounded by supporters, friends, and the rich history of reggae music inside the iconic Queens record store, the occasion served as a powerful reminder that a culture built from passion, community, and music can resonate far beyond its beginnings.

Congratulations to Miss Pat and the entire VP Records family on this well-deserved recognition.
