Celebrating the women who helped shape reggae’s global influence across generations.
Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin, co-founder of VP Records, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Florida-based Reggae Genealogy, recognising her enduring contribution to reggae and its global impact.
She shared this distinction with two iconic figures of Jamaican music, Marcia Griffiths and Cedella Marley — a powerful acknowledgment of the women who have helped shape and carry reggae across generations and borders.
The award was presented during the inaugural Reggae Genealogy music festival and concert, an event dedicated to celebrating the rich history and cultural significance of reggae. Held at Broward Mall and attended by more than 1,400 guests, the gathering brought together artists, community leaders, and music enthusiasts, sparking meaningful conversations about reggae’s influence on the global music landscape.
As part of the wider celebration, the exhibition Reggae Music Journey offered a visual exploration of VP Records’ legacy, featuring a curated collection of images and graphic works. The exhibition includes contributions from photographer Ajamu Myrie and graphic artist Maria Papaefstathiou, highlighting key moments and figures that have defined the genre.
Complementing the experience, David I. Muir’s Reggae Reel fine art showcase pays tribute to some of reggae and dancehall’s most legendary artists, further enriching the cultural programme surrounding the event.
