A national recognition for a lifetime dedicated to shaping reggae and Jamaican culture.

Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin, co-founder of VP Records, was honoured with the prestigious Reggae Icon Award during Jamaica’s 62nd Independence Day celebrations on August 6, held at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Standing among national leaders and cultural icons, Miss Pat received the award in recognition of her lifelong contribution to reggae music and her role in shaping its global journey. The moment marked a powerful acknowledgment of decades of dedication to Jamaica’s cultural identity and musical legacy.

Speaking to the audience, she reflected on her enduring connection to her homeland, expressing pride in Jamaica’s music and culture, which continue to resonate worldwide.

In her response, Miss Pat shared the honour with the many artists, producers, and collaborators she has worked with throughout her career, highlighting the collective spirit that has driven reggae’s evolution over the years.

Her story spans more than six decades — from early beginnings in Kingston to co-founding VP Records, now the world’s largest independent reggae label. Alongside her late husband, Vincent Chin, she helped transform a local record business into an international platform that brought reggae, dancehall, and Caribbean music to global audiences.

Beyond her work in the industry, Miss Pat has also documented her journey through her acclaimed book Miss Pat: My Reggae Music Journey, preserving her story for future generations and reflecting on a life shaped by resilience, vision, and passion.

The Reggae Icon Award is among Jamaica’s most significant cultural honours, celebrating individuals whose work has had a lasting impact on the nation’s music and its influence worldwide.
